Why We Started New Orleans Mechanical Pros

After more than 17 years working in the HVAC industry across Greater New Orleans, Kevin Washington saw a gap no one was filling — and in 2022, he decided to fill it himself.

17 Years in the Field. One Decision to Do It Right.

Kevin Washington spent more than 17 years working as an HVAC technician and project manager across Greater New Orleans — from Uptown Garden District mansions to Bourbon Street restaurant kitchens, from Metairie office buildings to historic French Quarter properties. He knew the trade inside and out. What frustrated him was the industry itself.

Too many HVAC companies in the New Orleans market were cutting corners — recommending unnecessary replacements, sending under-trained technicians to complex jobs, and treating customers as transactions rather than neighbors. Kevin had watched it happen for years, and he had watched homeowners pay for it. In 2022, after nearly two decades in the field, he decided the right move was to build something better from the ground up.

New Orleans Mechanical Pros launched in 2022 with a clear mission: bring the technical depth of a 17-year career to every service call, and run the business the way a neighbor would — with honesty, transparency, and genuine accountability. The company was built on the belief that New Orleans deserved an HVAC contractor that would tell you what your system actually needs, not what generates the highest invoice.

That foundation shows in how we operate today. Every estimate is written and itemized before work begins. Every technician on our team holds active NATE certification and Louisiana state licensing. And every recommendation we make is backed by the kind of field experience that only comes from 17+ years of working on the full range of systems this city throws at you — aging ductwork in 1890s Creole cottages, rooftop package units on French Quarter commercial buildings, multi-zone chiller systems in downtown hotels.

We are a young company with deep roots. We started in 2022, but the knowledge and relationships behind New Orleans Mechanical Pros go back nearly two decades. That combination — the energy and accountability of a new business, backed by the experience of a seasoned team — is exactly what we set out to build.

Three Reasons We Started in 2022

The industry needed a higher standard
After 17+ years watching under-qualified crews and inflated estimates harm New Orleans homeowners, Kevin built a company where technical excellence is non-negotiable — not a marketing claim.
New Orleans deserves a local company
Large national chains don't understand Creole cottages, shotgun doubles, or the demands of a Louisiana summer. We were built by New Orleans people, for New Orleans buildings.
Experience without the overhead
Starting fresh in 2022 meant we could build the right systems, hire the right people, and price our work fairly — without the baggage of a legacy operation cutting corners to protect margins.

What 17+ Years in New Orleans HVAC Actually Teaches You

There are things you only learn by doing — by spending years in attics, crawl spaces, and mechanical rooms across every type of building this city has. Here is what that experience built into the foundation of New Orleans Mechanical Pros.

Every building in New Orleans is different

From 1890s Creole cottages with no attic space to 1960s ranch houses in Metairie to modern commercial towers downtown — each structure has its own mechanical personality. Generic solutions fail here. Site-specific knowledge is the only kind that works.

Humidity is the real enemy

New Orleans doesn't just get hot — it gets wet. Relative humidity regularly exceeds 80 percent in summer, and systems that aren't sized and configured for latent load will fail to dehumidify even when they're cooling. Getting this right takes experience, not just equipment.

Honest diagnosis saves money

The most expensive HVAC call is the one where a technician sells you a replacement you didn't need. After 17+ years, we know the difference between a system that needs repair and one that genuinely needs replacement — and we'll always tell you which is which.

Response time matters in July

A broken AC in New Orleans in July is a health emergency, not an inconvenience. We built our dispatch and staffing model around the reality that same-day service isn't a perk — it's a basic obligation to the people who trust us.

Commercial and residential are different trades

A technician who only works residential systems will struggle on a rooftop package unit. A commercial specialist may not understand the nuances of a 1920s ductwork system. We built a team that covers both, because New Orleans demands both.

Trust is earned call by call

The best marketing in the HVAC business is a technician who shows up on time, explains the problem clearly, fixes it correctly the first time, and charges a fair price. We built our reputation on that standard — and we protect it on every job.
